Foraminotomy

Definition

A surgical procedure that enlarges the neural foramen — the bony opening through which spinal nerve roots exit the spinal canal — to relieve nerve compression causing radiculopathy. Foraminotomy may be performed alone or in conjunction with discectomy or fusion in workers' compensation spinal injury cases.
