A break in one or more vertebral bones of the spine, ranging from compression fractures to burst fractures and fracture-dislocations. Vertebral fractures in workers' compensation typically result from falls or heavy lifting and are rated under the DRE method, with fractures generally placing the patient in DRE Category III or higher.
